“Form follows function.” The renewed love for A-frame cabins starts with that simple idea. A triangle is about as honest as a building can get: two planes leaning on each other, protecting a strip of space between them. When you modernize an A-frame, you are not trying to turn it into something else. You are … Read more
“Form follows function.” – Louis Sullivan The concierge economy is what happens when that sentence moves into your living room. Light, space, and materials used to be the main characters in a home. Now there is a new cast member: service. Cleaning, stocking, repairing, styling, watching, delivering. If you design your home around these services, … Read more
“Light is the first material of architecture.” If you really want to understand Billionaire’s Row, do not start with the price tags or the floor plans. Start with the light. Those penthouses are not just high; they are positioned to harvest the longest sweep of daylight across Manhattan. Morning light cutting along the East River, … Read more
“Architecture starts when you carefully put two bricks together. There it begins.” The entryway begins with one surface, one line of sight, one decision about where the eye lands first. If you want your home to feel grounded, breathable, and … Read more
“Light is the organizer of space.” Automated blinds sit in that strange zone between gadget and architecture. They control light, which means they control how a room feels at 7 a.m. on a winter morning and at 4 p.m. on a bright summer day.
